Strange face compositions generated with computer vision
Live Site CodeFaces is an experiment in generative art making with computer vision; specifically facial recognition.
The web app prompts the user to enter a search phrase, which pulls images from Flickr. Each image is analyzed for a face; when one is detected, the image is rotated and scaled to align each face in the same central location. As each face is composited on top of the others, a ghostly figure resembling a sum of the parts begins to emerge.
Errors in detection can lead to inaccurate identification of facial structures. These inaccuracies can create interesting compositions and artifacts which generate some unexpected yet beautiful results.
